Empowering Yourself after a Divorce - The Home and Garden Experts

A divorce can leave you feeling adrift in a sea of uncertainty and change. The marriage you assumed was permanent has ended. You may feel angry, scared, liberated or a confusing mixture of emotions. That?s perfectly normal; your life has undergone a fundamental change, and it takes time to recover from such upheaval. And you?re not alone. In fact, thousands of people have had to resort to using services of Philippines Private Investigators as well as many others to look into their spouse?s suspicious behavior.

It can be tempting to look at recovering from a divorce as form of healing over triumph over tragedy, but it might be more positive to see it as a successful movement marketing campaign, where you rebrand yourself and your relationships with others.

Only one solid rule applies to empowering yourself after divorce: proceed at your own pace. No one else has the authority to tell you when to stop mourning the loss of your marriage, when you should start dating again, or how you should handle your children in the wake of divorce. One of the positive results of divorce can be a rediscovery of your values and identity.

Taking Control

Many online post-divorce websites focus on empowering women after divorce, but the advice on such sites applies equally well to male divorcees. One of the most common empowering tips is realizing you can change your environment.

Environmental changes don?t refer to moving out during divorce: that?s a necessary evil. Instead, this advice recognizes that ? possibly for the first time in years ? you?re in sole control of your own life. This is a potentially transformative realization, goals and dreams you may have put off as impossible during your marriage may suddenly be attainable.

Some people use this newfound freedom to change jobs, move to new locations or go back to school after a divorce, but change doesn?t need to be so dramatic. Taking control of your environment can be as simple as redecorating in a style that reflects you, not your ex-spouse.

Put the Past behind You

Focusing on what you?ve lost is tempting after a divorce. While that?s perfectly natural, looking back doesn?t help you move forward. You may resent or even hate your ex-spouse, but focusing on those feelings does no good, especially if you share custody of children.

Looking forward can be very empowering. Every decision you make, large or small, is now your own. Whether you?re deciding where to eat dinner or considering a job offer, the decision ? and its consequences ? belong entirely to you.

Goal setting can help you move forward. Goals don?t need to be huge, life-changing events. Planning to get together with an old friend is a goal. So is starting a new exercise program or learning a new skill. The goals themselves aren?t important: what?s important is that attaining goals forces you to look to the future, not the past.

The Importance of Self-Care

Above all, take care of yourself. Eating right, getting out and moving, and taking time to pamper yourself are always important, but never more so than after a major stressor such as divorce. Caring for yourself can mean everything from starting a new exercise program to buying an ice cream on the way home from work. Go at your own pace, and start a movement that carries you forward.

Debt ratio of world's best economies five times higher than Nigeria's ...

By Johnbosco Agbakwuru

CALABAR?Director General of Debt Management Office, DMO, Abuja, Dr. Abraham Nwankwo, has said? the debt ratio of most developed countries as China, India, Britain and Germany,? with the highest reserved fund, was five times higher than that of Nigeria.

Dr. Nwakwo stated this in Calabar at a stakeholder?s forum organized by Cross River State Debt Management Department.

He said: ?Countries borrow to finance certain project. That includes China, India and Germany which have the highest reserve from the World Bank.?

He said countries borrow, not just to finance projects, but because of certain benefits that accrue to the people in the building of strong institutions.

He said no serious country in the world could do without borrowing from the World Bank and other financial institutions.

(AP) ? Peyton Manning's two interceptions had put the Broncos behind. The four-time MVP was going to need yet another fourth-quarter comeback to pull it out.

No one's better at it.

Manning stayed perfect against Cincinnati on Sunday, overcoming his two interceptions with three touchdown passes for a 31-23 victory that gave him yet another NFL record that measures calmness under pressure.

His 48th game-winning drive moved him ahead of Dan Marino for the NFL record and showed Denver (5-3) that he's still got it when everything's on the line.

"He is special at it," coach John Fox said.

Especially when he's playing the Bengals (3-5), who have failed every time they've faced him. Manning improved to 8-0 career against Cincinnati, throwing for at least three touchdowns in five of those games.

His two second-half interceptions ? one in the end zone, both by cornerback Terence Newman ? helped the Bengals pull ahead 20-17 early in the fourth quarter. That's when Manning and the Broncos have been at their best.

It wasn't hard for Manning to get past the two bad moments and create more winning ones.

"I've been there before," Manning said. "My dad (Archie) always talked about you've got to get back to level zero, erase the play from your mind ? a good play or a bad play ? and move on to the next one.

"That's not the scenario we wanted. Anytime you're on the road and have a chance to put a team away, you want to do it. You don't want to give a team a little life, which is what we did."

In the end, it didn't matter. Denver has outscored its opponents 103-23 in the final quarter, the biggest point differential in the league.

"There's no panic," receiver Brandon Stokley said. "That's what this team is all about."

Manning threw a 1-yard touchdown to tight end Joel Dreessen that put Denver back ahead. After Andy Dalton underthrew a pass under pressure that was picked off by Champ Bailey, Manning put it away with a 4-yard pass to Eric Decker with 3:36 left.

"He's a great competitor," Stokley said. "He is who he is, and it's what I've seen from him for 14 years."

Manning was 27 of 35 for 291 yards for a passer rating of 105.8. He came up 9 yards short of tying Steve Young's NFL record of five straight games with 300 yards and three TDs passing.

After a neck injury threatened his career and ended his stay in Indianapolis, Manning has regained his touch with Denver. The Broncos have scored 37, 21, 35, 34 and 31 points in their past five games, winning four of them.

The Broncos also got a team-record 105-yard kickoff return from Trindon Holliday to open the second half.

"I think this team needs to go through different scenarios and have one of these tight second-half games," Manning said. "The more you can go through it as a unit, the more you can draw on it later in the season. Anytime you can win going through those scenarios, that's a plus."

The Bengals came out of their bye week with their season at a turning point. Coach Marvin Lewis went out of character and challenged Dalton and middle linebacker Rey Maualuga to become more vocal leaders, underscoring that things were slipping away.

"Losing is bad," Lewis said. "We've lost four games in a row and we have a hard road to go."

His quarterback made the game-changing play. Trailing 24-20, the Bengals had two holding penalties and a false start that set up a third-and-25 at their own 18.

As he was about to get hit, Dalton heaved a pass toward A.J. Green that was underthrown. Bailey intercepted at the Cincinnati 46-yard line, giving Dalton an interception in every game this season. The Broncos then put it away with Manning's third TD pass.

"It's one of those where you take a shot with A.J. and either he's catching it or nobody's catching it," Dalton said. "I had pressure in my face. I threw it and couldn't get enough on it ? I was getting hit."

Dalton was under heavy pressure much of the game and finished 26 of 42 for 299 yards with five sacks, one touchdown and the decisive interception. He had a 10-yard touchdown pass to Green, who has caught one in seven straight games. It's the third-longest such streak in club history.

Notes: Holliday's kickoff return was the longest allowed by Cincinnati. ... Broncos RG Chris Kuper hurt his left ankle late in the third quarter and had to be helped off the field. Fox said X-rays were negative, but more tests were needed. ... Decker became the fifth Bronco to catch a TD pass in five straight games. ... Bengals first-round pick Dre Kirkpatrick was active for the first time and made his debut on the punt team. He hadn't played because of a knee injury during the summer.

Alt-week 11.03.12: zombie animals, martian methane and self healing buildings

Alt-week peels back the covers on some of the more curious sci-tech stories from the last seven days.

Altweek 110312 zombie animals, martian methane and self healing buildings

After a week where large numbers of people found themselves at the mercy of mother nature, many will be reminded just how vulnerable we really can be at times. That said, science still provides us with a pretty big stick to whack many other problems with. After the break we look at how crumbling buildings could soon be self-healing, why some UK-based scientists think they are one step closer to answering the "is light made of waves or particles" quandary, and NASA reveals its latest results in the hunt for martian methane. Oh, and there's some zombie animals too. This is alt-week.

Cat Fancies: In Defense of Animation - The Daily Californian

Hey grownies (like kiddies, but better!), you can regularly watch cartoons and be fine ? take it from your ever-reliable, mostly intact columnist, here. I say this because there exists a common misconception that watching animations equates with immaturity. This assumption stems from the fact that most popular cartoons are geared toward a young demographic. And Great Thor forbid people watch anything that?s not geared toward their age group!

I grew up in two different entertainment-consuming worlds as a result of my parents? divorce. One was a world of censorship, the other of freedom. As a free child, I could watch whatever I wanted within reason. As a constrained child, cartoon channels were blocked from DirecTV listings and considered something that would stunt my growth. Shows as innocent as ?Rugrats? were expounded as corrosive.

So, surprise, surprise: I preferred being free. This meant that I could choose my own adventure and develop my own tastes. When you?re ordered around, tastes are thrust upon you. This dichotomy of worlds allowed me to appreciate my intervals of freedom and examine the faults in censorship. And when you come of age, you?re stigmatized against watching cartoons in this way even more. But this should not deter you from your viewing pleasures.

You see, there is nothing innately immature about the medium of animation. If Jack?s French girl drawings can be sophisticated, why should the act of imbuing those drawings with movement evoke a sense of childishness? Well, it shouldn?t. The League of Men Who Dwell in Their Mothers? Basements are not a direct descendent of any particular formation of lines. And if you need further proof, my love for cartoons only resides in the basement of my brain ? without mi madre. Okay, no need to turn into groanies.

But really, animation expands beyond intended children?s demographics. There are a lot of cartoons that retain their accessibility to those of us who age. As an adult, I can now even better appreciate the writing and better understand the jokes of a lot of cartoons, like ?Powerpuff Girls? and ?Spongebob Squarepants.? Granted, this assessment doesn?t apply to all cartoons ? I?m not usually confronted with the blistering urge to respond to my computer screen whenever Dora the Explorer asks me questions. Not that I watch ?Dora the Explorer? or anything.

And then there is the phenomenon where these usually children-oriented formats become geared toward adults. We see complex, suspenseful storylines in anime dramas like ?Death Note.? ?South Park? has been the go-to animated raunch-fest since 1997. I witness my peers nerding out over ?Adventure Time? on a frequent basis. There?s this mature-rated thing called hentai that some people are into. There?s even a whole schedule block called Adult Swim dedicated to these kinds of cartoons (well, maybe not the last one). Look at that variation!

So you?ve been wondering, ?What?s the big hullabaloo about cartoons in the first place?? (That was a direct quote from your thoughts, FYI.) Well, fellow grownie, there are quite a few reasons that they?re great to watch. Of course, shows you watched as a kid provide an indulgence of nostalgia. In contrast with live-action settings, the creator has more control over how to portray the story. Also, cartoons lend themselves better to surreal physical situations. Before the effects used in ?Space Jam? were invented, ?Looney Tunes? was the ideal format for Wile E. Coyote to suspend in the air before he falls to what never is his death. There are certain aspects of cartoons that you can?t get elsewhere.

It?s totally acceptable to be an avid cartoon connoisseur at any age. I even recommend it. Let?s not discriminate against drawings. You?d be culturally deprived if you didn?t observe the genius that often takes the animated form. Maybe we could watch something together sometime and not be all childish about it.
